Problem #23
There are two related problems this month:
- Since 32 + 42 = 52, it is possible to
cut 3x3 and 4x4 squares into a finite number of pieces that can be
reassembled to form a 5x5 square. Do so using the smallest number of
pieces possible.
- Since 33 + 43 + 53 = 63,
it is possible to cut 3x3x3, 4x4x4, and 5x5x5 cubes into a finite number
of pieces that can be reassembled to form a 6x6x6 cube. Do so using the
smallest number of pieces possible.
